I can see why this was ground breaking and earth shattering when it came out.

I have a love hate relationship with video mixtapes. This being the granddaddy of them all. I guess my problem is that the mixtapes that are just clip compilations and aren’t edited much beyond being a series of clips, become dated. There’s nothing on any of these old mixtapes that you can’t just google at this point. So aside from one time watches or something to throw on at parties or in the background, there’s really no replay value in them.

Amok Assault Video is different though. It’s a fun little smattering of all different things, tastefully strewn together and paced well. It really serves as a time capsule to a simpler time. Where you had to go out of your way to see something fucked up instead of just scrolling through Facebook for two seconds. The clips aren’t all just mean either, they range from quirky and awkward to bizarre and brutal. But really, there’s nothing here that you probably haven’t seen before. There’s a lot of stuff that you sort of wonder why it even made it onto this tape too.

If you haven’t seen this, you should. Without hesitation. It’s important. But you should go into it with low expectations. It’s fun, but it’s not much of an assault.
