Canada has a number of intense death metal acts to offer, you just have to seek and ye shall find. Rising from the crypts of Windsor Ontario comes Corprophemia. Brutal death metal with an old school vibe but still packing a powerful technical wallop. From the brutal growls of the opener Valley Of The Kings we are bombarded with a fury of frenzied drum arrangements which act like an execution squad gunning down everyone in its path.

Released in 2007, 'Arrived In Pieces' is their first full length album. The band is currently active and continue to shred eardrums. Corprophemia are what you get when you mix the best of both worlds of brutal death and technical death metal. My two favorite songs on the album besides the opener are 'Diocese Of Anguish' and 'Constructing Paralysis'.

We get some horror movie intros from stuff like Lucio Fulci's 'The Beyond' (1981) and 'The New York Ripper' (1982) then the music takes over and takes no prisoners as its a relentless in your face beating of blast beats, old school guttural vocals (kinda remind me of Chris Barnes on Cannibal Corpse's 'Butchered At Birth') and grinding guitars ripping flesh from bone without mercy. Drummer Jason Longo who also plays in the epic dark death metal band Blood Of Christ also slaughters the skins for Corprophemia and the man does a fine job in laying the drum kit to waste on this release.

The bands later release Abhorgenesis sees the band taking their style even further in the terms of brutality and technical merit. CDN Records keep dishing out the best Canadian content they can find with bands like Fumigation, Ruptured Birth, Brain Spasm, Blastomycosis and more. Corprophemia have a fine macabre home on the label and with material like Arrived In Pieces its easy to see them gaining ground and remaining in place with a firm foothold.
